Insights brings a powerful new way to write your blog posts. It increases productivity and at the same time the appeal of your posts.

With Insights you can very quickly (in couple of seconds) do the following:

  • Search your blog for posts, edit them or insert links to them into the current post
  • Insert Flickr Images
  • Insert Youtube videos
  • Search and link to Wikipedia
  • Search Google
  • Search News
  • Google Blog Search
  • Insert a Google Map

Insights allows you to do all this using dynamic AJAX interface which loads the relevant information to your post in just a few seconds.

Using Insights

Insights increases the speed you access and present information on your site. It makes any information almost instantaneously available.

Let's say I want to link snazzy archives to my exact plugin page.

If I am not sure of the exact link to that page I would need around 1 minute to open a new window, search for this page, copy the link and paste it. With Insights everything is done in couple of seconds.

Adding images

What if I wrote a post about mountains and wanted to insert a generic picture of a mountain:

With Insights it takes few seconds:

What about a Video?

Easy as it can be. Find a relevant video and click Add Video!

Google Maps

With Insights you can add real maps to your posts using Google Maps interface. You can add markers and draw paths too.

When you are satisfied, Insights will add a map image to your post.

Wikipedia and Google

Insights also allows you to search Wikipedia and Google. Insert the links or read the articles with ease:

1. Upload the whole plugin folder to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder.

2. Go to the Plugins page and activate the plugin.

3. Use the Options page to change your options

4. If you want to use Google Maps module then get your free Google Maps key here.

4. Write a new post. You will notice Insights toolbar. Use it :)

0.4 - Added search only non-commercial licensed images option

Very useful plugin, thank-you for your contribution. some points.
1- The searched links should open a new window, as I get the wordpress prompt, 'are you sure you want to navigate away from this page' when I check the links.

    2- configurable search sites.

Thanks for a truly marvelous plugin - this will save me A LOT of time! I'll post about it on my blog.

Also, I'd second Prof Kienstra's comment about automatically crediting work from Flickr.

    Fantastic plugin. Thank you again.

A great plugin, a small suggestion however: is it possible to add automatic accreditation to the photographs you add using insights. Most users on Flickr do not mind you using their photographs, but do want a link back, which i think is only fair. However, now you have to manually add the link. Maybe you could implement something like Photodropper does (a small link and (c) notification beneath every photo added).

greate theme, i'm just testing it .....

    Any idea?

    Thanks, Uwe

A couple of other suggestions for features:
    1. Search local folder (images)
    2. Search local folder(videos)
    3. Search Google images (images)
    4. Search Picasa images (users account)

    Thank you! It's very useful.

You've done it again! Great plugin, I'm sure we'll make use of it.

In testing so far, the Google map won't show up in the preview window if wp_geo (and I'm guessing other Google map plugins) is active. I can't drop wp_geo though, as Insights only inserts an image of the map, not a 'proper' Google map. Now, if version 0.3 could do that...!

Also, it would be good if I could highlight text (a if making a hyperlink) and then have Insights make a link when I find something I want to link to (from my site, Wikipedia, Google) instead of just inserting the hyperlinked phrase [object].

But it really is a great plugin - thanks!

Great work! Would be so cool if you could implement an Amazon search that generates reference-links (for partnernet) like "Amazon Reloaded".

Version 0.2 fixes issues with image and video searches on some hosts (let me know :)

I am listening to all ideas expect more options in upcoming versions.

But on my admin panel it works only in google, wikipedia, and map search. No blog or multimedia results, only "Can not retrieve results". Any ideas? :)

Just one question before I install it, can I limit the search for images to my own flickr account?

This plug-in is great and will help out many WordPressers! Have you thought of adding in the option of applying a selectable custom field? I have some sites setup that users (authors) login and create posts, but it is very difficult for them to enter in custom fields such as home_feature_photo or thumbnail, which many themes utilize now. It is easy for many of us that create the sites, but not others. Maybe in the admin area a selectable custom fields drop down, that you can apply to the images? or something like that would be great.

Have your say
